Default Dash Light

While I was driving home the other night, the light behind my RPM guage and the Oil Psi guage went out and now they are real faint. Does anyone know what light it is I need exactly so I can tear it apart tonight and fix it? Thanks, Brad

One of the 00+ experts will need to chime in. However I believe these are special bulbs, not just the average item you can pick up at the parts store. Hoping I'm wrong.

Special indeed.

They are surface mount LED'*, soldered to the Instrument Cluster. Had my cluster replaced (under warrenty) for the same problem. If your not in warrenty, I'd imagine a enterprising person with a soldering pencil and a Digi-Key catalog could do it much cheaper.

I'm not 100% sure they are LED'*, contrary to what lots of people think. They are in fact soldered to the circuitboard, so it can be a pain to replace them. There was a post some time ago stating that the problems are often not the bulbs, but rather broken solder connections that can be fixed by heating the board up with a hairdryer.

I think he may be right. I tore my IC apart trying to replace one bulb, gave up, and when I put it back in the car two more bulbs were out.

Well I will tear it apart tonight or tomorrow when I am off and see what it is and hopefully I can fix it and it won't be too hard. Just last night though I was driving on a rought country dirt road and it kind of flickered at me a couple times. Hopefully I can just fix it myself.

Let us know how it goes. It sounds like your problem is identical to mine.

If you are electronically inclined.. you could check the leads with an ohms to test where you have a broken connection and jump the cracked trace with super small bus wire available at Rad Shack.

I've done this on pinball circuit boards where there is a low voltage or small draw. As long as the traces are big enough you'd be all set. Unfortunately I bet they are microscopic.
