Default Wheel Bearing CLunk 2000 SSEi

Sorry if this is a repeat question, but I just replaced the driver side wheel bearing due to excessive vibration/noise and end play in the wheel assembly. When removed, the old hub assembly was in pieces, so I am glad I replaced it. The humming noice and vibration is gone, however now I have a pretty loud thunk when I turn at slow speeds in either direction. I torqued the hub spindle nut to 125 ft/lbs. Any ideas? I got the bearing from Advance for $100 (made in China). Could it be the bearing? Should I replace it again with an American made one?

Thanks

Check the sticky at the top of the page for the intermediate steering shaft. Watch the video and see if it sounds like that. If not, we'll move on from there.

It is not the intermidiate shaft clunk...I have already been through that. This is actually a loud thunking/clicking sound from under the front end. It only appears a low speeds (maybe because I can not take sharp turns going fast).

if your sure its not the intermediate shaft, i would say its most likely a strut mount.

check all of your front end parts too, ball joins, tie rods, etc.

Funny , after I changed my front passenger Wheel bearing, a week later I had the clunk but it was from the opposite side (driver front), anyways it was when it was freezing outside for for a couple of weeks and the clunk went to both sides. When it warmed up the noise went away or can be heard (felt) slightly once in a blue moon.My wife drives it and I rarely do so havent had a good look at it yet.Let me know what you find.

OK, full details in the original post would have been helpful. Has there been any other front end work done on the car that we can eliminate? Be certain that the axle nut is torqued down good and tight.

Yeah...I was kinda thinking this myself. After I replaced the hub assembly on Friday, I only the drove the car a couple of miles. Everything sounded good, so I parked it until Monday. On my way to work is when I noticed the clunk.

No other front end work done to the car. I was getting a slight humming and vibration from the drivers side. When I did an oil change and swapped 02 sensor, I noticed some end play in the drivers wheel. I figured it was the bearing/ hub assembly. I swapped it, and here we are with a clunking sound.

I know, I know...I was trying to take the cheap way out. I should have spent the extra $$$ and got the American made one. I wonder if I can return this as defective, and exchange it for the more costly, hopefully better constructed piece.

This bearing could be perfectly fine. Because it was made in China, Wisconsin or Florida... none of this means it'* good or bad.

How about the bolts that hold the bearing to the knuckle? Are they torqued to spec, you only mention the axle nut. Did the balljoint reseat properly and is the nut tight enough including the cotter pin? Did the sway bar end link bolt break in the process w/o you noticing and now it'* making contact with another part?
