2000 bonnie trans question
I have a 2000 pontiac bonneville. I was told that to replace the transmission, I have to have a tranny built specifically for a 2000 bonneville. Would a 2000-2003 transmission work?

2 questions. What engine, supercharged or non-supercharged?
And who/what/why told you to replace it?

3800 non supercharged
it the motor and tranny has 200,000 miles...i took it about a year ago to have the trans serviced abd they did a power flush...now the tranny is acting up. So I was looking on doing a rebuild since the milage is way high..so I started looking for a trans to either replace my old one or rebuild one to change it out...this is my daily driver

As a word of caution, never FLUSH a high mileage transmission. You remove most of the clutch material already suspended in the fluid.
And I don't remember if there is a difference in the 2000-2005 transmissions...junkyards might be able to tell you exactly.

On the 4t65e there is two different final drive ratios I know my dad'* Buick had a 3.05 build code f83 on the build sheet. The other difference is the 97-2002 transmissions used a Holley style shift solenoid. In 03 they started using a bosh solenoid and they started using a hardened 4th gear clutch hub. So for your 2000 you need a 2002 and earlier and check the build codes for your final drive ratio.

way better to have the trans rebuilt with the new updates, if you get a used trans you will just have problems again in a short period of time. shop around i had my bonneville (same trans) done for 800 plus parts and fluid ended up at under a thousand, much better deal than paying any money for junk then having to pay someone again to swap another, and another, etc. learned myself the hard way.

It might be worth your while to spend the 1300.00 bucks at the dealer to buy SERTA transmission. It comes with a 5 year warranty and you can take it to any dealer if it goes out for repair.

thanks...I was looking for another core to rebuild...been quoted abt 1700.00 to rebuild.
ill check with the dealership to see about a new one...that would be better.
Is it true though that Pontiac changed the gearing in the 2000...so only a 2000 tranny would work. I though a 2000-03 would be compatible, but people ive talked to here said that the 2000 was a different tranny....I need to either rebuild my motor also ...so i thought if i got a motor and tranny i could just swap them.,...and was told the engine u could but not the tranny....makes no sense...
