Default HVAC Mode Actuator Replacement

Replacing the HVAC Mode Actuator on our 03 Ssei. Asking for information from anyone who has done this.

I notice the GM part 89018376 (Bonny with dual elec climate control) comes with the actuator along with the mounting bracket and with the cam follower for the 3 door levers. Read on the Cadillac forum to only replace the actuator ONLY and trash the cam and bracket. If you replace the entire cam and bracket, it turned into a very hard job aligning the 3 door levers to the cam.

I notice the ACDelco and Dorman units do not come with the cam and bracket.

Question, they mention that the GM actuator'* center hole changed patterns for the Cadillac'* mode actuator and forced you to replace the entire assembly. Did that center hole change for the Bonneville? I notice the GM part has a black colored center drive hole to where my car has a white colored center hole like the ACDelco and Dorman units.

So is it best to stay away from the GM part? Has anyone replaced their Mode actuator with this GM 89018376?

Follow up on replacing the HVAC Mode Actuator.. Again, you hear a bunch of clicking noise in the dash and you notice the air won't move from middle vents to the bottom vents and to the defrost vents.

If you look at the GM 89018376 and possibly the AC/Delco unit, you will see the actuator comes with a bracket and wheel attached to it.. You do not need that bracket and wheel nor do you want replace those parts. All you need is the main motor unit. Look at the pictures for the Dorman 604-146.. The Dorman felt like a more solid unit compared to the GM unit.

Look up under there and you will see the two actuators and verify the which one is clicking. The hardest one is the MODE actuator, the other one is the heater blend actuator (hot to cold air).

Disconnect the battery.. You will have too anyhow so the computer can relearn the new motor once its installed.

Remove the drivers seat if you have a Torx to do so.. MUCH easier.

Once you remove a black box and a tube. Remove the 3 5.5mm bolts and pull the motor off (again, do not remove the entire assembly).. If its like my car, the middle part of the motors shaft will stay stuck to the car since that is part of what broke.. Get your channel locks and get it off of there.

Replace the motor actuator unit and hook the battery up. Then turn the key on (engine off) for 1-2 minutes and let it learn itself.

FYI
