LOL on the bath. For anyone that ever removed an engine, you might think it'* fully drained until you remove a knock sensor. 2 more gallons come pouring out.

The rear knock sensor is damn near impossible. It'* not possbile from underneath unless your name is Houdini. If you doubt me, crawl underneath and try it.

Something that should be mentioned is the knock sensor torque is how you set the sensitivity of it. If you went tight, you are going to read a ton of knock and your engine won't run right. IIRC the spec is 14 ft lbs. Someone please double check that for me. I am not 100% positive that spec is right.

This is probably not the part where you want me to mention the motor swap with cam and Gen V that happened on Saturday in the garage and while it took til 3am, it was only one day.

Well then I am Houdini!!!

I loosened the shield and used a 7/8" short socket. With the shield loose and the sensor unscrewed from the block you can slode it along the front edge of the trans and it comes out. One real nice gash on the back of my hand (that should have had stitches ) and it is done.

Motor swap is now complete and the car runs great.....EXCEPT tonight while getting it ready for a 300 mile trip tomorrow and I notice that it has eaten some anti freeze......

OK maybe I didn't get all the air out. Even though I left the temp sensor out while refilling until I got AF.

SOOOOOO....I look at the front of the intake .......and there is OIL.......!@#$%......right in the center along the edge of the gasket and by injector 1 and 3.

Now I changed the valve cover gaskets and cleaned the surfaces up nice......so I doubt it is them.

Trip is now canceled ....an this thing is parked AGAIN.....until I can pressure test the cooling system and see if I get bubbles...where I see the oil.......RIGHT?

The real bitch is that I considered changing the UIM/LIM before installing.....but the JY motor was so clean and dry that I opted against it.

I just can't win.

Most likely it'* the valve cover. If not it'* seeping up the bolt and shouldn't be all that much.

I really won't know till I pressure test the cooling system.

The oil that I see is along the top of the intake gasket and along the valley and settling around the injector for cylinders 1 and 3.

Second is the fact that i notice anti freeze level dropping in the overflow.

I hope I am mistaken....but I dobt that I have done any real damage to the new (to me) motor in 60 miles.

One last thought......earlier in the day yesterday I added about 4 oz of sea foam to the oil to perhaps help with a lifter tick I get at startup....for about 15 seconds at startup.....which goes away at idle and appears under inital (lite revving) of the motor......when RPM is sustained....it also goes away. FIgured that a treatment might free up the lifter....as well as some miles.

I noticed the oil after this...so a part of me wonders if treatment like sea foam might have caused the problem?

Default JY motor concerns

OK here is the latest

I replaced my old motor with a JY motor. Supposedly from a 58K 02 park ave.

Motor looked good....with no apparent leaks I replaced valve cover gaskets and water pump. the old pump was full of a foam looking substance. Fine....I install the motor and it has an (apparent lifter or rocker tick that disappears after running for less than a minute but is there each time it restarts but again quiets. 60 miles of running reveal LIM leaks.

Oil pressure usually steady at 60lbs and when really warm 40.

I service both UIM and LIM....put it back together.....motor is clean inside....

run it for 15 minutes drain the oil and refill. tick still the same. Run the car 100 miles yesterday all seems well.

This morning get ready for 140 mile trip. cars starts and SES lite is on. Make the trip...gets great mileage all seem well except for the SES.

at lunch I hit it hard from a stop and after this .....I now have what I am assuming is lifter knock (not a rod) under medium throttle. If I am into boost it is now there. Under normal easy throttle it is not. ????

Added a bottle of CD2 and have lass then 10 miles since adding.

Stopped at autozone and read the codes. P0101 and Ho251

P0101 says mass or volume performance problem

Ho251 says insufficient switches bank 1 sensor1

cleared the codes and they havent come back.

could I have a bad injector?

i am most interested in trying to undestand if I have a bad lifter or if I should be contacting the JY to get another motor.....

Are the rockers positive stop or is there a lash setting......should I pull the valve cover and see if it is simply out of adjustment. Can the lifter be serviced with out pulling the intake?

In general I am PO'd

all comments welcome.

Thanks

Sorry...sometimes we have lives as well.

You are continuing a story w/o posting in the same thread as the rest of the story. Personally I happen to dislike this because then we have to search and find out what other things you may have mentioned before that are pertenant.

If you clearned the codes and they don't return then they don't mean a thing. Holler if the codes return or you get new ones. I feel stomping on the engine when you have unknown codes is poor judgement and if the motor blew up, I'd feel you deserved blame.

The noise.. please get a vid of the noise. We have a tough job of diagnosing from a distance based on what people type and can't necessarily give good advice at all times. A clip of what the noise sounds like would be great to help out.
