Can the half axle be responsible for a clunking or popping sound when turning either direction in the '00 SSEi?

No I have still not replaced the CV boot or the half axle yet because of financial hardships but if I am doing more damage then I need to get it taken care of.

It almost feels like something is loose and that is why I was thinking that the leaking CV boot has done something else that I need to have repaired. Please let me know what you all think!

Intermediate Shaft

you can drive it like that as long as you want. it is only an annoyance.

Is this something you feel or just hear? I seem to recall a TSB relating to a popping sound made by the CV boot when steering, most notably at slow speeds or steering while not in motion. I'd have to check back at the year(*) affected. This is different than the notorious intermediate steering shaft.

Please update this thread when you find out what this is. I have the same issue - replaced the intermediate shaft and nothing changed.

Is there a replacement shaft available? On my lacrosse the dealer said they just grease it (Its under Warranty so cost isn't a factor). But I have read in some places that there is a replacement shaft that corrects this problem. Is this true?

Yes. I don't recall the part number off hand but some members here will hopefully chime in.

DDalder...yes it is both feeling and hearing but I think more feeling and it is just at slow speeds pretty much. I don't really think it is the intermediate shaft but I could be wrong! I know I have a CV boot that is leaking badly so that is why I was thinking it might relate to that somehow??

I had the clunking last year when it got cold for most of the winter and went away when it got warmer and didnt come back, not even this winter.It was not the intermediate shaft either it was more front end.I started a thread but nothing came of it.Not saying yours isnt intermediate shaft.
