Default I'm so confused...Help me please

Ok this is what happened. Last week my baby didn't want to start. The Service Theft came on and she wouldn't start. It wasn't that cold out either. I tried repeatedly to start her and she didn't try to turn over, not even the head lights came on after the first try. Then today on my way to work going about 70 mph on the interstate she just cut off on me and the SES light came on. But started right up after the second try with a little bit of gas amd the SES light went off. Any ideas as to what is going on?

Sounds like the theft deterent system is kicking in for some reason.
Do you have the stock audio system or has it been modified? Maybe a loose connection.
Have it scanned to see what SES code tripped. My guess is that it has to do with the Service Theft system.

The only time mine did that was when I installed the new PCM and then I had to go thru the learn program to activate it. That takes about 45 minutes.
If you haven't changed your computer and it only did that once, I would think that it is an intermittent fault caused by a loose connection.

I agree with Paul, it sounds like the theft deterrent system. I know our breed of cars are alot different than others but, I looked at a Mitsu Eclipse before I came to my senses and the theft light was on and I'm pretty sure it had been stolen. The lady said it wouldn't start and if it did start it would'nt run.

I know this is a typical ? but has it been tampered with in any way??.

Run a scan on it and see which sensor is tripped.

Hope this helps,

let us know what you find out.

When the altenator went out on my wifes 98 grand am. It would still start but the headlights would dim out real bad and the car would lose power.

What bugs me about this is the fact that you were running at cruising speed and it just cut off and then started back up. This has got me, try finding Rogue and ask him.

He is the be all end all when it comes to Bonnies, he will know what to tell you.

Keep us posted on this, I would really like to find out the answer.

The theft systems can keep a car from starting but will not make the car die if a fault is present while the vehicle is running. If the vehicle is running when the fault ocurrs then the security light will be illuminated and the car will continue to start even after it has been shut off. If the fault occurs when the vehicle is not running then you have to wait 15 minutes and try again.

#1 I would scan the car. A lot of SES codes are stored and can be retrieved even if the SES light is off. Based on these codes we can look into the problem.

Is your security light illuminated or blinking when the car is running?

Agreed, with out pulling the codes everything is pure speculation and could be wasting your time and money.

No codes where spat out. Would a 160* stat cause the car to just shut off?
