In the section shown, I have seen this sort of smelly smoke coming out of the vavle. Im not really sure what is causing it, anybody have any ideas.

that picture has a box around where the front header connects to the rear pipe. you could tighten it up if exhaust fumes are comming out of it...but i would think you would throw a code if any signifigant amount was comming out. as above poster stated tighten it up...how it came untightened is beyond me...
if you tighten it and it still is leaking you know what that means...

we need to know what year your car is... if it is a 2000, there is an Air injection pump in that area, if a valve or seal is leaking from teh pump, then it certainly cause exhaust gasses to come out of it.. there appears to be a vacuum sensor and diaphragm check valve behind the engine that is involved in the air ionjection pump system aswell.
IF YOU HAVE A 2001 or newer this DOES NOT apply to you

if the smoke is coming from the connection at location 1, try tightening up the bolts at the junction
Location 2 shows the air injection pump, the cone on the top of the unit is an air filter to allow clean air into the exhaust, if air is coming out of the cone, then there is an issue with your air injection system, and we can look into this problem further (when i bring my manuals in from the car)
from the bottom rear of the air pump, you should see this tube going from the pump to the exhaust crossover pipe, these should be clamped securely, if the smoke is coming frome this, a clamp my be loose, or a damaged hose
