Alright, went hunting for the knock sensor to replace it last night. No luck. I've searched here for answers. One person says up and to the left of the starter. I have a boss w/ a plug in it there between the soft plugs. On the opposite side of the block (back side) I have the same situation. I can look up from the oil pan and see each of the plugs but no sensor. Someone on another thread said it'* the sensor above the oil filter w/ the 4wire plug. I know this is false. That is the oil pressure sender. I'm out of ideas. BTW the car is a 93 sse.

Look above the oil sender, and a little to the driver'* side. One wire, the sensor is about 1.75 inches round. Looks kinda like a small door ****.

Nope. If it'* there I sure can't feel or see it. The only wires in the area are for the VSS, oil pressure and O2, all in the same loom. There is a big bracket between the engine & trans right to the driver'* side. Other than that just the exhaust manifold.

My '92 service manual says the wire to the detonation sensor is dark blue; the wire to the O2 sensor is purple, then black; wire to the oil sender for the gauge is tan.

If they stayed the same in '93, maybe this will help you find it by following the dk blu wire.

My engine diagram shows it just as jwikoff99 described. Could someone have replaced it with a pipe plug?

Damn, I see it now. I'm glad they decided to put it in a nice easy place to get to. I'm hoping if I pull out the oil pressure sender I can get to it. I don't know how I'll ever get any sort of socket or wrench on it to turn it out. Too bad I didn't know it was bad when I had the trans out, might have been easier then but I doubt it. The idler bracket is in the way the most. Maybe I'll just find a good cliff to run it off of

Ummm, don't know if the older knock sensors are like the newer ones, but if they are, when you unscrew 'em, coolant will flow out of the block. One of the more experienced mechanics here can probably tell you.

Might be nice to be ready for that, just in case.

Yep I'll be replacing the thermostat w/ a 180 while I have the coolant drained. Going to tackle the job in the morning if it'* not raining. Oh joy. I really hate when something is buried like this.

It'* real easy to get to if you take the timing cover off.

lol... well maybe next week I'll try it your way. It looks like my sensor is probably good. The wire is broke. Actually it seems to be pulled clear out of the connecter. So my dad was at the junkyard today and he cut off a pigtail for me, I'll just solder it up when I'm down there this weekend. Looks like it'll be sucking gas all the way down there. I look forward to driving this thing for the first time with it actually running like it should. The other thing is I have a pretty good oil leak from the oil filter housing. When the previous owner had the transmission pulled they let the engine settle with the oil filter against the cradle... did a good job of smashing the filter. I was hoping it hadn't damaged anything but looks like I was wrong. It dripped about a 4" puddle in the 2 days it'* been sitting there. I know there'* a gasket there. I'm hoping I might be able to replace that and fix it.
