Default Won't hold charge compressor running when car is shut off

My 93 bonneville sse will not hold a charge for more than 4 hours in cold weather..... i have a new battery. every time i turn it off i notice a small compressor of some sort (between engine and driverside tire) starting to run...... it will go for a minute or two and then stop..... after a while i believe it runs again...... is there a common problem with the car not holding a charge? could it have something to do with compressor?
please help me!!!![/b]

The compressor is trying to pump up the back end of the car. That'* your levelling system. More than likely you have a leak in the system causing the rear end of the car to sag back down, like a leaky basketball.

If i unplug the compressor in the engine will it help or harm anything?

How might i go about detecting the source of the leak?

could it be a seal? a hose? Where else would i look for leaks? Do i really need to have it plugged in?

where do i start?

Thanx so much for your help!!

The car won't be able to level its rear suspension, so you might start looking a little tail-heavy if you've got a ton of stuff in the trunk.

You're going to have to inspect the air lines from the compressor back to the rear suspension. I'd start under the car at the back; the visible lines back there (find them at the rear shocks) are the most susceptible to damage, so see if you find anything there.

See above. Unlike regular shocks, air shocks affect your ride height, so you'll be riding a little low back there without the pump to keep the system up.

Here'* another option for the Air Ride Struts too>

I would check the hoses to the Rear Struts though, possibly only a line that'* cracked or fallen off.
