As many of you know, I started driving a '95 SSE after my '93 SSE met its untimely demise. After driving two examples of practically the same car, I've noticed several annoying traits. I was wondering if anyone else has observed these problems, and, if so, what they have done to solve them.

First, there is a high speed vibration coming from the front wheels. The vibration is noticable above 60 mph, increasing intensity until about 75 mph. The vibration is especially noticable in the steering wheel. I don't suspect warped rims, out of balance tires, or bad wheel bearings. Perhaps the brakes are the culprit -- does anyone have a different guess?

Second, there is excessive wind noise. The weatherstripping seems to have come unglued from the body, allowing air to seep in at high speeds, producing noise. Has anyone found a good device for holding the weatherstripping in place while the glue dries?

Thanks,
Jeff

Yeah, I have aftermarket rims and I thought that was the culprit for the vibration but I had them balanced and after maybe 1000 miles they started to have the vibration you are talking about. I think it is the brakes but I wont know until I upgrade them. But since the vibration is very small, I dont worry about it anymore.

I dont know about the wind noise, all I hear at very high speeds (100+) is just the normal wind going over the car... Where is the air leaking from, like a windows that is shaking from the high speed or the car is vibrating or something? Be a little bit more specific.

Well I went to a mechanic who told me (as a friend) that it was a combo of my tires and the "crappy Pontiac/ GM Brake system". I put alot of miles on my car often driving 4 hours in a day. This has brought out the worst of my brakes. Well the mechanic (my friend) was on I had very bad tires and had them all replaced. Things smoothed out. Now comes the hard part I had everything else replaced except for the calipers. All top of the line parts. Still a short while later the wobble started and this started to assist my front end to pull out of its alignment again then causing uneven tire wear thus causing more of a wobble shake. So the solution is a better brake system from Pontiac. I heard it was a recall. Good luck getting it for free. I am going to talk to some friends who work at the local Pontiac dealership and see what price I can get it down to. Also if the kit is easily copied I may be able to get it made cheaper for those interested. At worst at least we now know that it is not us just the brakes. Oh new bushings on my sway bar and a few other areas turned out to help keep the shake from pulling my alignment out as quickly as it did before. I also think the front/ disk brake problem assists the front end to make intermittent “ anti lock brake” warnings come on. Not sure though. I think the heat up front prematurely cooks our brake fluid. Ill let you know what the Dealers shop Forman says. They it when I talk to him. LOL

I have that annoying shake too, from 110-130 km/h... it happened suddenly, and it varies in intensity. When I put on the brakes at any speed after they've heated up, I get the same vibration. I need new rotors and I need to get the crud out of the back of the wheels.. :

I had that vibration in my brakes with my stock wheel/tires. Now with the aftermarket rims I have, they are totally vented and cool off much faster and my car now brakes better. Also I switched my brake fluid to Synthetic DOT 4 brake fluid that can withstand like 500 degrees. I found that helped alot with the brakes. But so far it hasnt caused my car to misalign so I am not 100% in the same situation with you guys.

Hmmmm

Sounds like I should check my rotors. They feel a bit warped, but could they be causing the high speed vibration? If I replace them, I'll post the results.

The wind noise is from the weatherstripping coming unglued. The noise is especially noticable above 50 mph or so. If I move the weatherstripping back into place with my hand, the noise goes away. Has anybody else had this problem?

at highway speeds it doesn't take much to create a vibration.
