Rough sound
I have a 92' SE and when I'm driving 25-45mph a zooming noise comes from the engine or transmission and sometimes a ratteling noise occurs. But, when I turn the steering wheel to the right it stops making the noise. Another forum told me it was the power steering, but I changed it and it still makes the noise. Another person told me it could be the right wheel bearing. I also notice that my oil pressure gauge goes all the way to the right when I accelarate and returns back to the normal postion when the car is idle. I lifted the car and spun the wheels but no noise was heard because there was no pressure on the car. The car has 115k and would like to put another 5k next month because I want to drive down to Mexico for a month. If any member could help thanks, I also plan on taking the car to a dianostic center for a check-up before I take it to a mechanic.

I got the same problem.. It is the barrings in your alternator. No biggie just a weird noise. If you dont like the noise I would go get a new alternator

Um, just a bit of warning here ....
A couple of years ago, I had the same noise coming from the alternator on my '91 Jimmy. Now, it had been doing it for a few months, and I just hadn't gotten around to getting the bearing replaced (I was assuming that it was the rear bearing). Well, I guess you could say I waited too long to do it, because one night on my way back from school (on the interstate), the front bearing seized and spun the outer bearing race in the front housing of the alternator. The entire rotor assembly ended up walking out of the front of the alternator, which instantly killed the truck, shorted out some of the wiring harness, and started a fire under the hood (the wiring insulation was burning). Thank goodness I ALWAYS have a bottle of Diet Coke with me, otherwise it might still be burning by the side of the road. Excitement like that I can do without....
So, I guess the warning is, if it'* been doing it for awhile, you might want to get it checked out before you take it on any long trips or anything.
