try to get a pair of pliers on it and gently wiggle it. try not to damage the seal because they are a bear to replace. when you put the new one in, you will need to tap it up into the seal, just be careful. this is one reason i suggested taking it to a shop. when i worked at a dealership in Md, a guy that worked there took a filter off of a TH125 cav transmission, when he did, he broke it a cut the crap out of his hand, ended up having nerve damage to 3 fingers on that hand.
please be careful

This happened on Jseabert'* 93SSE some time ago. I successfully removed it VERY carefully with a large slotted screwdriver, gently prying around the edges. Don't mar or in any way damage the aluminum it'* pressed into.

95neongirl you are not alone. This happened to me the last time I changed the the filter in the trans too. Just have patience(something we all need more of) and you'll be able to get the remaining neck out of the seal. My seal never came out so I just tapped in the new filter into the old seal. I used a rubber hammer very carefully to get the new filter installed. Also, make sure you torque the bolts to the pan correctly. I don't have the torque spec handy but the other guys would know the value.
