Since I have only had this '99 Bonneville for a little over a week. I have notieced that there is something wrong with the auto lights. Not the DRL'*. I am talking about the lights, taillights, and gauge lights. This in turn dims the HUD...which is already dim as it is. Having the headlights on renders it useless. (see my HUD post)

Is there something wrong with my light sensor? No, it is not blocked by sticker. This is annoying...can I disable something,DRL, auto lights, ???

theres a circular switch that you twist to brighten the gauge lights, twist it clockwise, twist it enough and your interior light will go on. Not understanding your question but to disable the auto lights theres a flat looking sensor right behind the VIN number that you can pull out by taking off the dash panel easily. Once you get the panel off pull the sensor out and wrap it around with foil or aluminum tape to close the circuit and trick the computer thinking its day time. Its a 5min job
Hate the auto lights, really annoying design

Do you possibly have fog lights turned on? Not sure how it is on your year bonneville but on mine if I have the fog light button turned on from the night before or something they stay on even during the day along with my dash lights etc.. turn off the fog lights and the dash lights go off and everything is nice and bright and easy to read again.

Other than that I couldn't tell you what the problem would be. I would think there is just a fuse you can pull for the Auto lights, as most vehicles I have owned have one.

Hmmm, no not the interior light ****. The problem is the headlights turn on even when the sun is out. This causes the gauge/radio lights to come on. Sure, I can make them brighter just to somewhat see them. But there is no reason for them to come on automatically when the sun is out. This has to do with the light sensor to the left of my HUD.

It really doesn't matter if I have the fog lights on or off. The lights still automatically kick on. The DRLs still come on and function normally. As I said, the issue is in the auto light system. Bright sunny condition they should not come on.

I have noticed they come on, then the sensor gets enough light to turn them off. And then a few minutes later, they come back on.

Do you have tinted windows by any chance?
What id do to test if its actually defective is shine a flash light or park somewhere bright and let them turn off, then wait those few minutes and see it your lights turn on or not (make sure you dont move the car) if they do turn on with the same amount of light then theres a problem, if not then thats how they're designed. Thats why i got rid of that blonde sensor

I do have tinted windows. That is more than likely the problem. I haven't had time to try the flashlight test. But today while driving around it was partly cloudy. It seemed like when I was driving when the sun was out, the lights were off. But when a cloud went by, the headlights came on.

So, how do you get rid of the "blonde sensor?" Is it just a fuse I pull?

On my 96 i couldnt find a fuse so i pulled out the sensor itself and wrapped the 2 pins around with aluminum tape to close the circuit, in other words it tricks the computer thinking its day time all the time. Not sure with the 99 bonnes but my sensor is located right behind my VIN tag, its like a flat black/purplish circle looking thing that you just simply twist/pull out by first taking off the plastic trim that runs infront of the dash.

On pulling the light sensor out. Do I need to take off the plastic vent piece? Or can I just pull the sensor out? And I am confused. Does the sensor disconnect from something? Or is it just a wire connected permanetly? Not sure where this foil goes once out?

On a 93 SSEi the sensor pulls out from the top of dash no need to remove dash. Remove photocell package then turn socket ¼ turn if you want to get to wires though there’* no need.

I’ve actually wanted the auto lights (twilight sentinel) and replaced the photocell using the Radio Shack assortment pack. The SM says its resistance should be 15K ohms day, 20M ohms at night. So if you don’t want it to come on automatically buy a ¼ w 15k resistor and swap it with the photocell. Or you can short it like the previous poster mentioned.

I agree it always bothered me that the HUD and radio would dim and be useless during daylight hours if you had the lights on.

I have an '01 SE, and would LOVE to disable the DRL and auto-lights. I can't stand them! If I wanted the freakin things on, then I'd turn them on!

I've seen another post to disable DRLs (removing relay and jumping pins #86 & #87A), but how do I kill the auto-lights? Is it the same basic process as listed previously is this post? And am I correct in assuming that the sensor is the little dome-looking thingy in the center of the top of my dash?
