Removal Of Lower Idler Pulley On A 1996 SSEi Bonneville
Hi Guys,
I am a first time poster but I referred to this site many times for technical information. I have to say that you guys know your stuff! I have a Red 1993 Supercharged SSE Bonneville and my brother has a Black 1996 SSEi Bonneville.
The pulley in question is on my brothers car. It is part of the supercharger belt system. If you look at the front of the engine it is the pulley that is just above the harmonic balancer/crank pulley and to the right a little bit. The problem is that this pulley has seized and has destroyed the super charger belt. This pulley is mounted to a short 3" long "stalk". We have tried to remove the bolt that holds the pulley on but with no luck. We have loosened the bolts that mount the "stalk" to the engine to see if we could remove it but it would not budge. When a few of the bolts were removed from the "stalk" antifreeze came out of the bolt holes.
Does anyone have any experience with removing and replacing this pulley?
Better yet, What is the pocedure for removing and replacing this pulley?
Is it correct to assume that since the others pulleys were left hand thread that this pulley would be a left hand thread as well?
Why is there antifreze behind the bolts and the "stalk" behind the pulley?
Thanks for your help,
Mike

If i'm not mistaken, the "stalk" is the nosedrive of your supercharger, and the "coolant" is supercharger oil coming out. I'm not looking at my engine right now (obviously ), but is this the highest up pulley on the SC belt?
Check out any of the performance sites for a supercharger pulley removal tool (www.intense-racing.com, www.zzperformance.com, www.domesticperformance.com, www.3800performance.com, etc...), and while you're at it, think about possibly replacing the pulley with a smaller one to make your SC create more PSI, as long as you're willing to throw a few other mods on with it.
And you'll most likely need a T50 bit to remove a certain PITA bolt that prevents you from removing/installing belts on the series 2 like you can on any normal car.

From what you've said. Could this be your water pump? If so there is a column in the techinfo section that will run you through changing that. At first read this is probably what your talking about. I just did mine not that long ago. If you have anything else to comment about I am willing to hear it and i will be sure to check back if you need help.
