Default 96 LSS wont start, fuel pump relay clicking rapidly

Hello all,
Just had a problem the other night, the engine cranks but wont start! With the ignition on, there is a rapid clicking of the fuel pump relay. I can also hear the fuel pump pulsing along with the relay. I jumped the relay terminals (3 and 5 if I remember correctly) on the panel and the fuel pump seems to run normal. However, the engine still wont start with the jumper in place. I swapped the relay with an identical part# with no fix. Only other problem I noticed was the climate control display is flashing. I havn't checked the wire harnesses near the kick panels yet. I will get to the car later on tonight, just looking for more hints before I head out. I did a search but didn't find anything with exactally the same symptoms. I can tell you that the power windows DO work. One other check I made was I pulled the fuel pump module connector with the ignition on. The fuel pump ceased to pulse, then continued once reconnected. Hhhhhmmmmm.......
I am contemplating on buying a scanner tonight, what do you guys think?
Thanks for all your help,
JJ
Important note- I am not 100% positive it is the fuel pump relay that I have been messing with. I dont have an owners manual, and my chiltons doesn't show my type of relay/fuse panel. This panel is the one on the passenger side, under the dash. It acted up this way intermittantly months ago, but fixed itself after I turned off the ignition then back on. Hasn't done it since. Well, till yesterday......

The 1st thing to check is for corrosion on the battery cables. Remove the rubber boots from the cable ends & clean with sandpaper or wire brush. Apply dielectric grease to help prevent future corrosion & reassemble.

If that doesn't help then remove the relay & look for numbers near the relay terminals. You should see 85, 86, 87 & 30. You need to check for power where terminals 85 (power from PCM) & terminal 86 (ground) plug in. Positive meter lead goes to the socket for terminal 85 & negative lead goes to socket for terminal 86. You should have 12 volts for 2 seconds when the key is in the on position. Should have a constant 12 volts while cranking.

Default Car started, left wire harness

I made it to the car tonight, first thing I did was wiggle the left kick panel wire harness and it started right up. Coincidence? I will try tomorrow to recreate the failure, then see what we have. Ted, thanks for the numbers, I will check them out. Can you help me identify all the fuses/relays in that panel? Again, I dont know for sure if thats the fuel pump relay, but the pump stops running when I pull it. As you are looking at the panel, it is the only one in the left vertical row. I will also check the battery terminals, although I recently checked them out with a PO171 problem. Thaknks,
JJ
