96 series II n/a water pump
Water Weeping from wp. Searched for tips found alot on ssei and earlier years. It looks like it should remove easy. Has anyone done a wp on 96 n/a ? Is there anything I should know. I'm assumming the new water pump is just the thin smaller casting that is closest to the wp pulley and that you don't mess with larger casting where the lower rad hose connects? I haven't bought the new one yet let me know. i plan on doing it this weekend and just in the preparation stage. Next stop library for service manual for torques

That should do you. Mounts the same, removes the same, same part, same-same.
You'll want the maintenance manual for the torques. It'* kinda weird. The procedure calls out 2 different torque values, one value for 4 bolts, and another for 4 others. It doesn't make any kind of sense. Seems random.

All that
willwren,
I read that, but that article is for the blower type engine and it talks about supporting the car and messing with motor mount, Power steeting pump and tensioner. I'm not sure if that applies to a 96 n/a. I can see all the bolts and nothing seems to be in the way. Someone has to have done one of these with all these failing so early 65,000 mi . More input please.

Here is procedure for WP
Now I just have to do it!
1995-99 Vehicles
See Figures 15, 16 and 17
3.8l (VIN K) engine
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
Remove the accessory drive belt.
Unfasten the four 8mm water pump pulley bolts, then remove the pulley.
Remove the four 3/8 in. bolts and four 1/2 in. bolts, then remove the water pump from the engine.
Remove and discard the gasket and thoroughly clean the gasket mating surfaces.
Fig. 15: Exploded view of the water pump and gasket mounting
To install:
Install a new gasket, then position the water pump over the gasket. Install the retaining bolts and tighten as follows:
Tighten (1) bolts, shown in the accompanying figure, to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
Tighten (2) bolts, shown in the accompanying figure, to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm). Fig. 16: Water pump bolt identification
Install the water pump pulley and secure with the four 8mm bolts.
Install the accessory drive belt.
Connect the negative battery cable.
Fill cooling system and check for leaks. Start the engine and allow to come to normal operating temperature. Check for leaks and top-off the coolant.

Thx Jr3800
I needed that last step you gave me. I finished with no problems new wp, and hoses and cleaned up tools/shop in 2.5 hrs. Maybe you could get this into tech so the next guy can find it easier.
