Ok here is the problem, I have a 3.8 V6 non-SC, the car gets running really hot and the fans don't kick on until I either turn on the A/C, or if I leave the A/C off, the fans don't kick on until the temperature guage reaches about 240 to 245 degrees. This seems a little odd to me. I never had this proiblem before with this car. And I also am leaking coolant a little bit every day, and I also just had the thermostat replaced. Someone please HELP!!!!! Thanks in advance!

ok well last night when I left my gradnparents house, I had a full tank of coolant, and i went to go somewhere this morning and when I got there I saw smoke coming from under the hood. I opened the hood and found the coolant tank was completely empty. Only a couple of days before that had I noticed very little trace amounts off coolant on the ground, but not a whole lot.

What is the year and trim line of your car?

I would start by checking the thermostat area for leaks. Do you smell coolant? Near the thermostat there are many hot parts that will evaporate the coolant as soon as it contacts it.

It'* a 1997 SSE with the non-SC 3.8 Series II. I looked all around the car and did not notice any coolant leaking anywhere else, it'* hard tp pinpoint out but I am thinking that it may the cracked upper intake.

That could certainly be the culprit. If that'* it, you should get it repaired before the engine locks up.

Same thing happend to my old engine in my Thunderbird... I didnt notice it on a long trip and it locked up my 390. Definatly not what you want to happen on a vintage or a late model car. I would get your upper intake fixed if you know that is the problem... To fix that is alot cheaper then replacing a whole shloew of engine parts or even the whole block itself because this could cause a crack in the block from excessive heat. Good luck and god speed

About how much does anyone think that this is going to run me price wise?

Believe me it will be ALOT cheaper to replace a leacky hose, thermostat, or even a head Gasket than it will to replace the whole engine. if your engine went through an entire tank of coolant on some around the town driving than you have a SERIOUS leak on your hands. Go to your mechanic or even your dealer but consider this you to get that looked at or else the only thing you might find your wallet is a moth or two!

True with the amount of coolant your losing it must be a major leak... maybe a gasket but Im thinking a cracked something or other. Check your oil dip stick... if you have green or it is watery .... you have a big problem but not a hopeless one as of yet... Get it checked out and maybe one of us can fine you the part you need for Cheap.
