I think strip calk is not a substitute for weatherstrip glue as it will not hold nearly as well. But, I have used it successfully by removing stress on the pieces to be joined (in the case of the door seals, by spreading the bottom gap) or where pieces are firmly fixed with fasteners. It does seal and hold well under those conditions.
The shrinkage of the door seal causes the original adhesive to pull free anyway, I guess.
