Default LIM/UIM Newbie Report

Well, this is the deepest I have ever been into an automobile and without the help of the forums I would never have attemped this task let alone be almost finished.

I learned a few things.

Try your best to source all the parts first, make sure you either purchase them or that the autoparts stores have plenty of stock. I purchased some before hand but assumed that the local parts stores would have things like o-rings, bolts, inch pound torque wrenches. I had a planned weekend that ended up bust because the local Napa, Autozone, Knecht'*, and Shucks had nothing I needed, no injector parts, or kit, not other o-rings etc and the inch pound wrenches they had went from 120in/lbs to 250 not the 89in/lbs I needed for the UIM.

I also repaired and sleaved my UIM and made a stovepipe. The tubing for this was not available locally I needed to order and would have taken four days via UPS. So I found a machine shop who turned one from plans I drew up. The guy thought it was an interesting thing so he only charged me $15 and I found a scrap piece of 304SS for $2. I Know alot of these problems would not be issues if I purchased a Dorman or APN kit, but I was going to plug the LIM anyway so I figured I could easily use the old UIM, it was manufactured in 2003.

Anyway, I have to reinstall the alternator then I am almost done, should be tomorrow morning. I want to thank everyone for their help and comments.

I think I have a new hobby, I like the car and it would be fun to keep it running and boost the performance. Oh, and I did port the LIM while it was off.

Well it is all together and so far no coolant leaks and it seems to have a little more punch.

I learned a lesson I will not forget.

When you are removing or installing bolt, nuts, etc,

STUFF any holes below where you are working with shop rags, if you can make a little catch basin for them. Don't spend 80 minutes looking

I only wish I would have realized this earlier.

Glad to here things went some what smooth for you. Each thing you do will get easer and you will be more organized. You will also get more spare parts. Wont be long and your shop will look like mine, or worse yet, Billboosts.

Hey now... I resemble that comment.

My spare nuts and bolts are in those plastic divider containers. Started out as a couple spares for when I lost them, now theres too much done and spare motors etc, then when I go to the junkyard I put any bolts I take off into my bag. Might need'em someday.

Another good thing for that lost bolt is an inspection mirror and magnet. You get these two and you can find almost anything. Instead of stuffing areas I sweep my garage floor, enough to make friends uncomfortable. This is so when something falls and rolls, it'* easy to find.

I had carpet on the floor under the car. When something fell it would just stick there, not bounce and roll away. It'* kind of stained with various engine fluids now.

Thanks to you guys for helping me out through this, I should have done one more thing while I was at it.
The water pump, it seems like I have a smalll leak. I might jut try and do it today.
