Default 94 SSE Bonneville, bearing(*) shot

Hey all

Oil pressure has been low since I bought it, reading through other posts I put in the 180 thermo, which helped some. Other posts led me to think I had a bearing going out.

Well.... going down the road today I heard a loud 'clicking sound', maybe the same sound you would hear if you stuck a broom handle in a fan.

A few miles later, a snapping, metal flying sound, engine dead, but not seized.

I'm guessing I threw a bearing, but I'm not mechanicaly inclined enough to know if it'* a crank or rod bearing, but I'm guessing it'* on the crank.

I just sank $1500 in other repairs into the beast, and I'm guessing this repair is going to run around 2K, either by repair or swapping out the engine.

Questions:

1) Is it likely my theory about what went wrong is correct?
2) If so, is a better route to swap the motor or repair the old one, or is this something that can't be determined until post autopsy?
3) Can anyone give me any rough estimates on costs for either option?
4) Anyone in the KC Metro (Lee'* Summit) Interested in some side work?

I'm interested in the costs mostly because I like the car, and figure if I threw another 2K in it, I'm at $3500, and at that price I'm not gonna find another reliable used vehicle.

Thanks much
Matt

PS: It'* got 125K on the odometer.

No tears on the balancer, can't movethe belt it in either direction. Also the engine won't turn over now; although it did immedialy after the incident. I'm guessing it cooled down and seized.

One more thing - I sent off a request to LKQ, looks like they may have an engine; said they will contact me.

Can't tell you all how much I appreciate the info......

You were correct the first time... I'll be money that you have Spun a rod bearing... Sorry to hear it tho..

Not sure what members we have near you tho..

Sorry, missed your question - Lee'* Summit MO, about 25M East of downtown Kansas City.
