Should I have a spring in a PCV??
Over the weekend I change the UIM and LIM and noticed that the PCV did not have a spring
I got a 98 Bonneville, non SC with 155000K. Had issues with this engine since purchasing it in 2001. Thanks to this forum I was able to put to rest my engine issues from the past (UIM - Coolant leak). But know my engine is running slughish.
here are some syptoms:
1. At Idle, it revs to below 1000rpm. throttle up to 2500 and it sounds like gasping for air and when it settle back to idle it sometime backfires. This only happens when the A/C switch on.
2. When i turn off the a/c, It idles around 1100 and still sluggish but a little better. I am know hearing a hissing sound.
3. During driving conditions - when accel the car is hesitating and need to rev it up to 3000-4000rpm until this hesitation stops.
4. upon starting the car it takes time to crank the engine over and then their is (i believe) blue smoke.
I have spent allot of time and monies to get the engine back prior to the 2001 issues.
I reading all the threads its point to the PCV or EGR. So any help is appreciated.
Cheers

No spring in the PCV valve. When you shake it, it should move inside. Hissing sound could mean a vacuum leak somewhere. Check all your lines from the back side of your intake to the firewall, and the lines from the front side of your intake to the canister below the air filter box.

If you can not locate the vacuum leak. Spray throttle body cleaner around the engine slowly. When the engine acts differently concentrate on that area and you will locate your leak.

Hold on a sec... there IS supposed to be a spring in the PCV assembly. For some reason there are a ton of people around here with no spring in the PCV, but if you get a brand new Delco PCV kit it will come with the valve, O-rings, and a new spring. As far as I'm concerned, it'* supposed to be there.

I think the later years had a spring... But the 95-99'* most likely didn't...
Question tho.... Does this PCV cross to both the L36 and L67?
