1993 SE - Won't exceed 40kph, need help
Hey All,
You might remember me...a friend and I are working on his/his step fathers 1993 Bonneville SE. We recently put a new head unit in it, and were going to put some new audio gear and such on it. However, December 30th, the car was at the ski hill for the day, and refused to start. The starter threw a pin or a shaft or something, and $300 later, the cars 'fixed'
He went to pick it up today, and the car started right up. He went to pull onto the main road, and he had to have his foot to the floor to get the car moving. I wasn't there, I was at home, but he called me to come pick him up about a half-kilometer from where the car was repaired. He said his foot was to the floor, and the car never hit more than 40kph. The RPMs were changing a lot...with his foot all the way down, they were changing from ~1500 all the way to ~5000, without a significant change in speed. His step dad, not the keenest with cars, thinks the car is just cold. I think not. The transmission is only a few years old, and has pretty low miles on it (car overall has 290,000kms...Trans likely has less than 90K). I'd bet money it'* either the trans or the motor, though I can't specifically say _WHAT_ in the trans or motor may be causing this problem.
Anyone have any guesses, experiance in this field, or just an opinion to offer? I'd be happy to listen!

He just had the starter replaced. Sounds to me like they disconnected a vechile speed sensor (if there is one on a 93) but that is where I would be looking first.

Okay...PCM? I'm guessing thats the early form of an onboard computer, but I can't for the life of me figure out what PCM stands for. I also don't know if the 1993'* have a Vehicle Speed Sensor, but if someone can confirm its existance, and where to look for it, I'll pass that information along.
Thanks for all the help so far, guys!

PCM- Powertrain Control Module. Not an early form of anything. Its the car'* control computer.
And a speed sensor doesn't seem likely. Sounds like something wrong with the PCM if anything.
