This is very interesting...Ditchboy continues to have a problem with his (93 SSEi). He and Randman put in a resistor in December...and replaced it in March. It'* acting up on him again (intermittantly will not start). His next step is to replace the ignition, which worries me because the boy does not know what he is doing, and has the patience of his father. But, he'* going to get one and try to read the FSM to figure it out, so I give him credit for trying. I'll let you know if it works...but not sure when he'* going to do it.

Not sure what you're saying. When it still won't start, does he get a security light on the dash? Or does it just not start. If there is no Security light, this is not a VATS problem.

If you are getting a Security light, replacing the ignition after bypassing the system will be a waste of money. Once the system is bypassed, the ignition switch is removed from the VATS circuit. At that time I would suspect the wiring harness the VATS ignition wires go into.

Use your spare key and see if the results are consistent with your current key. If so then you know it'* the wires, if not then you know it was your key and you can get another made.
I know the key is resistance level 4, I've used a 'tester' thing at the dealer I work at. All my kets are resistance level 4.
You know it'* a 4...what resistance value is a "level 4"? I've never seen a level associated with the resistors, only the actual values.
