Default WARNING- Do not use HELP! section EGR gaskets (now with pix)

I would say about 4 months ago I replaced the EGR gasket on my '94 because I thought it needed it based on what I could see (it was chipped in several places). The EGR gaskets in the HELP! section were cheap enough, so I picked them up and used the one I needed. (These gaskets also have a screen on themto keep debris from entering the intake stream).

About a month ago I noticed a hissing sound coming from around that area, though I could not locate it. So I let it go, thinking it was air from the intake tube that I was hearing. It was also about this time my fuel mileage started to go to...well, h3LL. Yesterday, after changing the oil AND doing a coolant flush (went with Prestone LL), the hissing sound got worse. So, I took some TB cleaner, spray all around that area....and the engine stutters and shuts off. Ah-hah! So I thought...maybe I didn't tighten the EGR down enough. Nope...all tight. "Nah....it couldn't be. I just replaced the gasket..."

I'll post pics of it later. But rest assured there was nothing left of that gasket but the metal screen.

I HAD to get another HELP! gasket for the interim. I ordered a good one...same type of material exhaust manifold gaskets use...and should be here today or Monday.

And that'* my story.

Default help

Their rubber components are crap also. Tried to use one of their 5/8 heater hose bypass plugs on our Supra Turbo coolant port and the thing dried up and cracked in about 6 mo. time.

Advance Auto can get them. I imagine Autozone can get them too...but I don't have one local to me. And it should be of much better quality than the aisle has to offer.

Got the pics taken..

This is one of the gaskets the kit comes with. I think this one is for the Ford models, but the gasket material is the same, along with the addition of the debris screen.

This is what the GM gasket looks like after about 4 months and 10k miles

You started with clean surfaces and there are no cracks or problems? I'd think something was causing that gasket to go like that.
