Any time one of these things runs like ****, do a full tuneup. Everything, including plugs AND wires. The plats should do ok in a NA, but the SC favor copper plugs. With more than 50k on the car, I'd include the wires and an O2 in the tuneup list.

thats what I told him,
i 'd sell him the plugs cheap, and he should get
-new wires
-new fuel filter
-new pcv
-new o2
and a 180 t-stat

i said if he did that it should take care of the problem and he'd be able to get the parts for under $100 right?

Dead on. do the air filter, too, and maybe clean the TB. That'll take care of 95% of the problems with a rough running engine.

The BEST way to do it is remove it from the car. Your other option is to remove the MAF sensor, remove the maf screen, and spray intake safe cleaner in there VERY liberally.

when you say 'liberally', do you mean a whole can ? Also, should the engine be hot or cold.

Cheers,

Andrew

He means more than one can if you got it.

If you're leaving the TB on and cleaning it with a spray, just have someone keep the revs up enough so the car doesnt die and keep on spraying. Turn the car off and spray some in and open the throttle open and spray some more. Start her back up and repeat...

Just make sure you take the MAF sensor OUT!

wilwren, I may be on the backside of the learning curve but does TB stand for throttle body?
