I just recently bought a 92 Bonneville ssei. They only wanted $1000 bucks for it because they thought the supercharger was bad. I researched the problem to be that common coupler problem. I wanted to get some more input on this issue would this cause problems building boost and cause any hesitation. Or is it all just that horrible noise. Im new to these cars and would just like a little info.

A bad coupler would cause just that horrible noise.

Bad vacuum leak or dirty fuel delivery system would cause hesitation.

A bad BCA/BCS would cause low boost conditions.

Once you replace the coupler and and check all your vacuum lines, tune up, fuel filter and so on.......check out this thread ,it helps to diagnose low boost and gives test procedures to rule out the BSA and BCS

I would not try the bypass until you have your motor running well enough to do the bypass test.

I ordered the coupler lastnight as soon as i brought it home knowing that was the noise problem but I noticed while driving it home it built boost ok just if I tried to punch it it would do something i would compare to a shudder of sorts but if i accelerated slowly it wouldnt do it. I dont believe its the transmission because it shifts fine Ill check the fuel system.Would running a fuel system cleaner help at all? Thanks for the help.

I would check your plugs, wires, and coils, what your describing could be caused by any of these things. Take a look here for testing procedure https://www.gmforum.com/trouble-shooting-test-procedures-141/testing-coils-spark-plug-wires-278818/ As far as the plugs go, visually inspect the front ones that are easy to get to, send us some pictures if your unsure what you see.

one more sensor to check/test is the MAP sensor. Manifold Absolute Pressure
It works directly with the vacuum connection into the Boost control actuator
check the tech info section on testing the MAP sensor

Im not currently drivin the bonne but I drove it 1hr home the day I got it was that a bad idea with the coupler being bad?

It'* not doing any harm, just making noise. I rarely see other 92 SSEi'* out there it'* nice to know some others still exist.

my 95 did the same thing....i never got the chance to figure it out but i am guessing it was a combination of needing a tune up and bad vacuum leaks somewhere

my 92 ssei is doing the same thing. have u come to a conclusion as to the proper diagnostic? because i am baffled

OK Guys --I know this might sound strange but check your CV Joints and axles, I had the same thing happen to me,in that it shook when I punched or tried to pick up speed quickly, and after literally hundreds of dollars, I found it was the axle slightly bent, replaced it and all was golden for a while, then it started again and I replaced the opposite axle/CV and its been great ever since (over a year now). When you play with these cars you have to remember that they really do have a lot of torque.
To check them just put your car up and roll them watching the axles, if all seems good - start the car and have someone apply and release the brakes so you can watch them, even better if you can do it on dino-rollers (I went to my local clean air test facility and they were good enough to humour me and let me use the rollers).
