Exhaust/Cat questions
I know it'* already addressed by I'm kinda weird about getting things straight, so I want to make sure this applies for me as well...
I want to get a new muffler, maybe dual (whatever is best for performance and okay for looks).
I want to get magnaflow, maybe a dual outlet, but I don't know if the muffler shop will know exactly what to put on my car, and I don't know either! If I could get some part numbers and descriptions, I would be much obliged.
Now my more important question, I was wondering what a high-flow cat would do for my performance. How much would it be to intall this w/ my muffler (a vague estimate is fine), and will I still be street legal? I'm in CA, which has some strict environmental laws, and I'm not sure if I will pass a smog test w/ a high flow cat.

I am also in California, and yes, it is street legal and should pose no problem passing smog test. You asked if a high flow cat will increase your performance; I honestly don't think it will at all on an L36, but since I didn't replace mine, I have no actual experience with it, so I'll rely on others to tell their results. I have no idea what the cat would cost, but if you're bent on doing the cat, then you should probably do it at the same time and just pay one labor bill. My dual exhaust muffler did slightly reduce some low end torque, but a K&N intake brought it back. I'd definitely insist that you do both. My intake post is here:

I got part number 12266 which is the "aluminized" version, $81.71.
Part number 14266 is the stainless version, $113.60.
After I got the aluminized, I kind of wished I got the stainless, but they both have a lifetime warranty, and I called the company and they said either one would last about as long as the other, so I decided to stick with the aluminized. Several other members here have used the same muffler, and I haven't read any complaints so far.
If you do this upgrade on your SE, I recommend you keep the stock catalytic converter, resonator, and connecting pipes. If you go with performance cat and larger diameter pipes, you'll lose some low-end torque. Going with just the performance muffler adds a nice low-end growl.
