Default Transmission Problems?

I have 1995 Bonneville SSei Turbo Charged parked on the side of my house. Last June it wouldn't pick up speed. Took it to the shop, the mechanic drove it and it picked up for him but at some point it wouldn't and he had to push it back to the shop. He didn't have a diagnostic machine to put my car on at that time but he told me it would cost $1500.00 to install another transmission. Didn't have the money at the time so I had it towed home. Can any one give me some suggestions as to what could be the problem other than needing a new transmission. My granddaughter wants this car and I wouldn't want her to have to fork out a lot of money for this if at all possible. So if someone has some suggestions I would surely appreciate them.

Thank you

Is your car Supercharged or Turbo Charged? "1995 Bonneville SSEi Supercharged
Black 4 Door ", "I have 1995 Bonneville SSei Turbo Charged".

I'm assuming it is supercharged, that is the way it comes from the factory unless you made some major modifications.

Did you get any engine codes or anything else that you could provide us with so our gear heads have a better idea what is going on?

From the description you gave us it is tough to desktop diagnose it. Does it slip etc? Like Tom mentions, knowing the codes would help narrow things down to which type of fix you might need.

Overall though if you need a transmission, there'* little that can be fixed there w/o having to pull it out. Simply tough to tell from the little info we know.

From what your saying it don't sound like the transmission. If the engine is running and the car is not moving, that'* different. Does the engine die? Does it just feel sluggish? We need far more information.

The first things you will want to check is, if trans is slipping, check the fluid level. Otherwise check the spark plugs. Take pictures and post them.

My 96 olds Lss did the same, wouldnt pick up speed and would mess up, at first we thought it was the tranny, turns out that 2 coil packs had intermittant spark and it was missing like crazy, new plugs and coils and its ready to go! I had a 95 SSEI black also with a bad tranny but it knocked in park and wouldnt downshift going up hills. I Miss that car! .....

Will get my receipt and send you the information that was on my receipt when I paid for the service. I do know there was a crank shaft sensor but in. But my mechanic put a new one in back in January of 09 and another in July 09. Will get back to you thanks.
