Default TrAnSmIsSiOn PROBLEM!

Ok im new here and i have a 1994 pontiac bonneville. After having numerous alternator problems the trans. is acting up. It starts after the transmission goes through all 4 gears then the cars rpm'* level out around 2000. All of a sudden the car starts jerking like the trans. is having problems shifting, when it dont need to shift! Because i am going in the level at a constant speed! i let off the gas and give it back and it stops. Does anyone else have this problem because it is really anoying. i also have bad problems with the car missing really bad but im goin tomorrow to have the plugs and wires changed.

We need your location, year, MODEL, and anything you've tried already. Short of that information, the best I can tell you is to get a scantool on the car while driving. It'* the only way to diagnose this type of problem correctly.

If you want to shotgun it instead, go get your trans professionally flushed.

I agree. If the engine is not working right, the PCM will mod the shifting so that the tranny doesn't get damaged.

your torque convertor is locking and unlocking. educated guess. mine is a little rough on the lock/unlock (as I think a lot of ours are), and I've noticed that if I take my foot off the gas entirely, it unlockes the TC, thinking that I'm about to slow down.

Anyhew, that'* my guess.

3800s are known for feeling like they have tranny problems when it is really a tune up that is needed. I have a coworker who has a 94 Trans Sport that he swore had tranny problems, a tune up later and the van runs strong and hard!

Does this problem only occur when the car goes through 4 gears, or does it happen at other times as well? You might want to check your Ignition Module as well as the plugs & wires. The jerking you describe seems like a bad IM to me...

I disagree. 95% of the time, ignition faults are plugs and wires. Rarely the ICM or coils.

And when kyboi006 gets back to us it'll probably be 96%

I've got the same thing and have had it for close to 2 years. I'm convinced it'* the TC locking. I've done just about everything except running the top engine cleaner, but I don't think that will help this problem. I haven't reset the PCM. Maybe tonight. I replaced it last summer, so I haven't suspected it.
