Plastic coolant elbow - what needs to come off to replace
Ok, just got through with the water pump replacement et al on this series II L36, got it all back together, filled up the coolant and noticed dripping from the coolant bypass plastic elbow. Sparring you the 4 letter word tirade for 30 minutes, I know the altenator will need to come off, but will I have to take the water pump off to also take the tensioner off and get the old elbow out to put a new one on?

The p/* pump doesn't have to come off. You do have to remove the alternator. I didn't disconnect the alt wires; I just unbolted it and flipped it up on top of the intake.

Got it off - Gasket or Broken?
Thanks for the quick replies.I found the two bolts and wiggled and finally got it off. Now for the next question. Where the inlet pipe the one that slips inside the water pump housing, is this a gasket or did I break the sleeve that slips inside?

Broken Tensioner water inlet tube
Got it figured out. The pipe that goes into the water pump housing broke where it is grooved for the O ring. Had to use a TAP to get the rest of it out. Have put it all together and so far so good.
