Angry Replacing Side Mirror

I swear to god my side mirrors on Bonnevilles are cursed! I broke the one on my 98 Bonnie just after buying it and did it again to my 97 today!!! AUGH! Don't ask how, long story and totally F#$#$#$^ up!!! (remove that if need be but just totally frustrated right now with my driving!)

Anyhow, back on topic. I now have the "opportunity" to do this myself instead of taking it to the body shop and paying them. I managed to change my windshield wipers myself, which I never did before... thank god cause we needed an ARK in Ontario the past two days! I also took the radio out myself! (Thanks Scott!)

How do I do the miiror? Scott (who bought my radio and FOB and gave me the FOB for my 97) said I take off the side panel and undo the screws?? Does the panel come off easy enough like it did for the panel when I did the radio? I just don't want to wreck my 97 panel and have it no good.....

Is there a trick or something to watch for in doing this? Thanks for the help in advance!

Did my '97 drivers side. There hidden screws behind the interior light.Cover of pull handle. If I'm not forgetting the rest is held in by plastic " rivets" they pop out and push in. Then things get interesting. You have to put widow up and reach your hand near the top,not easy if you have a long arms no room. Two 10mm bolts hold the mirror on. Have fun!

Okay kind of get what you are saying. So the light is the one on my door? Does it just pop off and I see the screws there? How much do I actually need to pull off the side panel to get at the mirror. My arm are short, so is that good or bad. Not sure I am following along here quite yet.

Pop off the cover.. Two screws. The whole door pane needs to be removed. you'll need a 1/4" ratchet and 10 mm socket.not much room.it'* all the way up wear the mirror is.On a slight angle. Can't see it hardly.I felt around.

Okay so I pop off the cover, take out the two screws and than the whole door pane will come off easily?? Than I use my 1/4" ratchet and 10 mm socket and go fishing around up there for it? Would a flashlight help to find it too???

I just do not want to break the door panel on my good car when I go t replace it, the bashed up one can be broken into pieces if need be (but than again, might need that part if the other one breaks right???).

Since I am only 5'3" and 100 lbs, small arms are not a problem here! It is just not wrecking anything!

you can use a screw driver or buy a tool that removes these plastic "rivets ( for lack of a better word) They can mess up the plastic pices. After screws are removed you need to do this. Also diconnect the power window/doorlock switch.

If I go gentle with a small flat head screwdriver will that work? Also you say to unhook the power window/doorlock switch, will I find this when I take the panel off? Is it easy to spot and than re-connect in both cars?

Hey, he'* small! Just remove the window sill trim pieces and you can wedge your hand down into the door itself and remove the (2) 10mm nuts. Unless you have power mirrors, then the door panels have to come off.

If you still need to remove the doorpanels, read this...

Yeah I got the power mirrors! But with these instructions I should be okay doing it! I will let you all know!

I have printed off the instructions to take them right out to the car with me when I do it!

Holy mackinaw! It took tearing my poor door to shreads but I got the damn mirror out! Took me over two hours! It was the last bolt that was the problem, although once we figured out part of the window was blocking it, we got it out in a bout two minutes!

As for replacing the other one, gonna phone a body shop first and see how much, and than decide on what to do!

The diagrams did help a lot! Thanks you!
