Default idea

I have searched for hours at times looking for marker lights, etc. when the indicators turn on. I have no idea if it'* part of the warning system, but have you checked the backup lights?

I have had a similar problem...seems like a short somewhere...try disconnecting neg batt cable for couple of minutes...then reconnect...and turn off headlight sentinal...THEN try starting...should clear warning...does on mine...Although as soon as headlights come on...usually turns warning back on too....Electrical Engineers...SHOULD BE SHOT....

1) Turn on parking lights, verify that all taillights are working. (Any that are blazing away much brighter than the others may be plugged in backwards and using their brake filament for the taillight circuit by mistake.)

2) Leave parking lights _on_, then have an assistant step on the brake while you watch the rear lights. Any bulbs that go out when they're supposed to get brighter have a bad ground connection.

If all the above checks out and the warning still occurs, get back to us.

Default hmmm

ALL bulbs are working correctly. i have checked all this SEVERAL times. the only thing i can think of is maybe one bulb has an iffy connection. i guess i will pull all the bulbs and clean the sockets with contact cleaner and hope for the best.

The one that usually fools people is the licence plate light. It'll tell you you have a taillight out in that situation. Otherwise, remove all your bulbs, clean the bases, clean the sockets, put some waterproof grease (just a little) in each socket, and put it all back together. A little corrosion (high resistance) in a socket can do this.

Even the wrong part number. In a pinch, I used a 12V bulb for my 3rd brake light once. It was an RV interior light bulb. Base was the same, it fit, but the filament obviously had a different resistance. It lit up when I hit the brakes, but the LM still thought it was out until I put an 1156 back in.

In your case, this could be ANY light back there. Inspect them closely.

I was going to say that the next step would be to start replacing the bulbs, one-by-one. Good thing you found it.
