I have replace the outers, ('bout an hour for both) but Murphy has jumped in here and the inners are in equally bad shape. I did a search on the inner replacement and it looks like it could be a real knuckle buster. Does it inner unscrew from the rack? Could you double nut the outer threaded end to faciliate breaking them loose? I see a tool is available to help this tedious task. So, would the double nut trick work or should I borrow/buy the tool? Or, get a fistfull of wrenches like everyone else and fight it till I win?

Hmmm, I have never done them personally, but Autozone might have the right tool for it. They loan them out for free. You pay a deposit, then get all your money back when you bring the tool back. Pretty good deal IMHO.

If you haven't looked into that yet, you should check it out. The right tool will make any job easier

With the inner tie rod tool, it is a real easy task. About 30 minutes. Without the tool, it can definately be a knuckle buster. The double nut trick wont work because you will end up spinning the tie rod in the socket. I have had some success with BIG channel locks in situations where an inner tie rod tool wont work. But, it will on your car. If you dont want to spend all day doing it, then bite the bullet and rent or buy the tool.
