My brother'* O2
He got the SES light on, and 13mpg in his 92 SE. I told him it sounds like his O2 sensor. He got the codes, 13, and a bunch of 3'* and then 4'* (he'* kinda newbieish). The 13 is o2 sensor, open circuit. There is no 33, so that might be a different code, and 44 is exhaust lean. So I told him to get an AC DELCO ONLY sensor. I told him Bonnies don't agree with Bosch'*. He went to the parts store, they had both, and the AC was twice the price. So he called me back, wanting to get the Bosch. I had to convince him to get the Delco.
He had never replaced his O2. I told him if there was a Bosch in there, I'd be very suprised. He said if there was, he'd go back and get the Bosch and return the Delco. I told him that wouldn't be a good idea, but I don't know if he'll listen.

sorry if i'm hijacking this thread, but is the O2 sensor the one on the exhaust manifold right before it goes to the downpipe and the cat? and if so, what'* the best way to get at it? using a digimoto it tells me that O2 bank 1 sensor 1 is throwing the code. i need to change it, or at least try to clean it. help is appreciated.

Also some use a cresent wrench to get at the O2 sensor, others will buy an O2 sensor socket at the autoparts store...<---- I need one of these..

ah, thanks. by the way, if the sensor is throwing a code, is it affecting how the car is running? i don't notice anything, but will it run better if i replace the O2?

I replaced my o2 tonight.... With a bosch.... Anyway, I needed to get it done and I hadn't ordered one yet, so I said eff it. I'll recoup the money in gas savings. Mid June I did 27mpg over 800 miles. This week I did 4mpg over about 70 miles. Still working on getting a scantool or I would have known it was out... As hard as that thing was to get out I bet it was the factory original...

I got to look at his car the other day. The bottom side of his airbox was not seated right and was open. Appearently his bad MPG started right after he got his oil changed at a quick lube. I saw this about an hour before his wedding, then they left for Cancun, so it'll be a while until we see if fixing the airbox fixes it, but I think it might. The IAT was probably giving bad readings.
