Default Oil cooler question.

I have an SSEI with an oil cooler and I'm currently changing the engine. The new engine doesn't have connections for an oil cooler (I do have the old assembly if I need it) and the radiator thats currently in the car needs to be replaced. I have another radiator from an SE that doesn't have connections for an oil cooler. Will it hurt anything if I leave the filter assembly thats on the engine now (without oil cooling connections) and put in the radiator from the SE and just not cool the oil at all?

I ask because the radiator from the se is brand new and I'm not looking forward to spending $200+ on another one just to get the oil cooler part of it. Also this engine I bought came out of another car that didn't have an oil cooler and it had no problems. So is there any reason this car can't be run without it?

Yes, on the SC engine, the oil cooler is highly recommended, which is why GM put it on there. The oil will get extremely hot and your oil pressure will go wacky.

Stick with the oil cooler. Find the right radiator, and swap over the filter adapter from the old motor.

Alright will do, now for my next question. Any idea where I can find the gasket for the filter assembly? (carquest doesnt have it) and Could I take both the radiator from the SE and the one from the SSEI to a radiator shop and just have the tanks swapped? (the middle part, called a core?, is whats broken on the radiator from the ssei) Or is something different inside of the radiator?

I believe the core is different. Most parts places should be able to get the oil filter adapter gasket.

The core is different. The SSEi utilizes the HD cooling system and has a much thicker core compared to the SE'* Non-HD core.

Correct. The 92-95 L67 radiator core is twice as thick as the L27/L36 core.

The gasket is about $3 at the dealer. It'* easiest to change out of the car..if in the car..go through the passenger wheel well.

To kinda add to this topic additionally, I have an SSEi with an oil cooler. Is there an advantage to having an additional oil cooler like there is an additional transmission cooler?

Thanks all for the help, I got the old one off... any suggestions on how to get the old gasket material off the one im putting back on? Tryed a flat head and a razor and they dont work well because of the glue thats on the gasket.
