Default Grilles & Emblems

:?:

My Best Friend just stopped by with his '97 SSE and we were comparing options and features between his car and my newly acquired '92 SSE.

I was thinking about swapping out the grille from a '97 to my '92.
I want the infamous Pontiac Nose instead of the round projection with the arrowhead logo in it.
Looks like it'll work with some minor surgery to the body pieces.
The hood latch release may also require an extra cut/notch.
The headlights and assemby/buckets/brackets appear to be a little different, too.
Anybody have information on a swap like this?

Also, I need to get some SSE emblems for the side of the car, as mine doesn't have any. The one on the rear of my car says "SSE Pontiac". The ones on the side of his say "SSE Bonneville". His are silver trimmed, mine are gold trimmed.
Where do we find SSE emblems?

Another thing I noticed was the wiper arms on his had spoilers on 'em. Cool.
I want to switch to those, too. Gary seems to think that the only place to get the wiper refills is at a dealership.
Where else or what kind of refills fit the factory wiper arms?

A 1994-95 grill will be easier.

I agree, ty. Actually, 92 is the oddball. 93-95 will fit for sure, and they are different. As far as the emblems go, give I understand you have a 92 SSE? Give me the color, and I'll give you the part number for your door emblems, and even a grille from a 95 if you'd like.

Yeah..the 96+ grilles don't look like they'd be worth putting on..considering they are just grilles.. The headlights are differently shaped..and the nose looks like it too. ..95 would look great. On the other hand, 97 would look very very tight if u do go through with it, good luck either way.

willwren, thanks. It must be the same color as your photo.
SSE.
It'* one of the "Mean Green Machines" I read about here; you know, the FAST color!
Kidding aside, I'm not sure what the exact name of the green is, but, it'* green.

The emblem in back is gold-trimmed, so, the door emblems would look good if they matched.

Question on the grilles from '93-95...do these have the 'Pontiac Nose' I was looking to get up front?

Good info, guys.

The 93-95 had the Pontiac logo in a gold-trimmed circle right in the center. It didn't have the 'split grilles', but those won't fit your car. 93-94 will. If you go to my website http://home.attbi.com/~bill.wren/ and look at the pic of my car in the dark, you'll just see my logo peeking through the bra mesh. You can't quite see the circle around it, but the logo is obvious.

Oops. Just looking at the breakdown, the 92-93 SE had your grille, the 94-95 had mine......weird how they did that. 96 and up WILL NOT fit your car. Looks like mine will bolt right up, but my book says the SSE and SSEi for 92-95 were the same. Do you have the round frame around the pontiac logo? If not, here'* the numbers:

Grille 25615571 (already the right color) $81.90
SSE Pontiac logo (green on gold) 25609494 (92-94) $46.34

All prices are from www.gmpartsdirect.com and are a HUGE savings from dealer prices. The emblem is normally 80 bucks, and the grille is normally 140. BTW, the interface of their website has changed a bunch for those who haven't been there lately.

My '92 SSE has the 'golden circle' with the Pontiac Arrowhead in it.
It is still attached with one of the three poke-in tabs. Glue should fix that.

Our grilles are probably the same.
If the split grille is THAT much of a hassle to install, I won't mess with it.
It was just a thought. Cheaper to keep her the way she is.

The side logo prices are for ONE, i.e., EACH?
$100 for two. Wow. OK. I'll wait a while.

That gmpartsdirect.com link is taking too long to load tonight. I'll check it out tomorrow.
Yours worked fine. Thanks.

The 92 SE grille design is actually split like the 96 and up. Very similar. It will bolt right up to your car.

Split with 'fish gills'...was my first impression.
Not as smooth as the standard part on the SSE.
BUT, the car was white. In the dark green, it might look better.
The four slats in the grille actually might look OK with the SSE'* close together driving lamps below it.

I had a couple of pix up on the screen last night and was going back and forth with them.
I like having something a little different.

Willwren, I told BusMaster007 that it looks like he could replace the headlamps and framework, and then add on the grill piece, which does look like it would bolt on.
The reason for the lighting swap is the slight taper to the edge of the grill on my 97 versus the straighter edge on his. I think that if that would be possible, it would work.
