I have a 93 SSEi and the power steering pump is going, in know this because the fluid is full and at idel when u go to turn u can hear it vibrate and feel it vibrating, yet at around 1500 rpm the problem is almost not noticable or gone. Its worse in colder temperatures as well.....Anyways how can i change it my self?

Keep me posted, I have the same problem with mine being out.

I removed and reinstalled it on my car when i replaced the engine, and I think your car is pretty much the same. You can definitely do it yourself. These should be the steps for replacing the pump:

1. Remove accessory belt (and perhaps strut tower brace for easier access)
2. Detach pump from brackets. The top and bottom bolts can be reached through the holes in the pulley.
3. Disconnect high-pressure fluid (metal) line, using an open end wrench
4. Disconnect low-pressure fluid (rubber) hose
5. Pump can now be removed from the vehicle...
6. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure
7. Make sure to refill the fluid and bleed air from the system after everything'* in place.

k how do u bleed air from the ps system?

According to my service manual, besides using GM P/N 1050017 or equivalent

1.) With the engine off and the front wheels off the ground and turned all the way left, add power steering fluid to the "FULL COLD" mark on the fluid level indicator. Leave the capstick removed from the reservoir.
2.) Bleed the system by turning the wheels slowly from lock to lock. Keep fluid level at "FULL COLD" mark. Fluid with air in it is a light tan or red color. Air must be eliminated from the fluid before normal steering action can be obtained.
3.) Repeat Step 2 about 12 times. If the engine had been started, repeat Step 2 about 20 times with the engine off.
4.) Return wheels to the center.
5.) Road test vehicle to be sure steering functions normally and is free from noise.
6.) Inspect for leaks
7.) Recheck fluid level as decribed in Step 1. Make sure the fluid level is at the "HOT" mark after the system has stabilized at its normal operating temperature.

The power steering pump is much more difficult to access on the */C engine.... I haven't changed one out on a */C engine.

I would recommend changing the power steering fluid first. Is yours black?

Mine still makes a slight buzz when turning above 1500-2000 rpm, but it is hard to hear. May be normal. Possibly some minor permanent damage was done with the old power steering fluid, but I'm not sure.

dark tan with air bubbles....

Air bubbles means that there is air in the system. Did you change the fluid out or do anything else to the system lately?

If not there may be an air leak somewhere. The dark tan color is also not good because new fluid is almost clear.

I would have suspected the gear/rack assembly first. How do you determine if the problem is the pump... or the gear/rack???

That'* a good question. If the fluid is poor or the pump is weak it can make the vibrating or growling noise. That symptom along with the air bubbles leads me to believe there is an air leak, causing the fluid to become weakened.
