It might be a possible cat.. but I always assumed that with a clogged cat, it would push the engine temp higher cause the hot air isn't being released out fast enough ( and if it is, she'll have to change it quick cause it will burn out her exhaust valve quickly that way)

Well.. I guess I"ll get them to change it ( including askin to see if my bro has changed his.. too sweet of car to have it ruined ).
Nah.. I won't be changin her belt.. too much work and there'* nothing really in it for me.. just some advise I'll pass down from you guys..
Will get the car read for codes first before doing anything else

Just a thought -- possible knock sensor? The SES comes on, it runs horribly due to retarded timing...had it happen on my 91 Lumina 3.1, same exact symptoms.
Just a thought
Good luck!

Thanx JR.. I will let her know that also. That seems like another bad design.. to have to pull the timing belt just to change the water pump? I thought it was a PITA to change the */C Belt on our car, but I"m glad that was the only bad thing about our car thank god.. everything else is pretty straight forward, simple, and seems to last (minus the N/A upper plenum issue)

Unfortunately the head in a CRX is NOT a non-interferance head. Since my wife tends to bogart her SSE and I'm racking up too much mileage on my Silverado, I purchased an 87 CRX with a broken timing belt for $100. I was hoping there wouldn't be any valve damage but, alas, 9 of the 12 valves succumbed to piston contact. The rest of the car is decent, so it I'll just have the head rebuilt (about $200) and still have a fairly cheap bit of transportation.

It'* always easy to spend someone else'* money (LOL)! But you're right - spend the cash to replace the timing belt as a minimum, and get the waterpump while you're in there - good preventative maintenance.
