I changed my oil pressure sensor last night, the gauge is now working properly, but I was wondering what the average oil pressure is on these cars? When it was cold it was 40 and when it was hot it was 20, both at idle. I know it has a bad oil pan seal and I don't know if that makes a difference as far as pressure goes, it also has a really bad HB, but I don't think that matters. Anyway, let me know what you guys think.....

The seal has no bearing on the pressure..

Well I always wonder becasue GM has the gauge that actually moves, and my ford doesn't. Back when I had my blazer it sat at about 65 cold idle and 35-40 warm idle. Why is the pressure so low? Is it just my year/model as you stated? Id there a way to raise it?

Forget the Ford.. they can't even give numbers..only a range.

The oil pump is driven off the motor.. therefore the higher the rpms the more pressure you will basically have.

Also the cooler the oil is..the thicker it is.. the higher the pressure.

Higher oil pressure can be good..but you don't want to compromise the pumping ability and movement of oil by increasing viscosity

quick, cheap way - heavier oil.

long, expensive way - all new engine bearings and crankshaft.

A 180 thermostat will also keep the oil pressure higher than a 195.

Let me just say that I know how pressure works, second I know that it is higher when the egine is cold, and I know why it is higher. That being said, I always thought that 20 PSi was pretty low (when warm). Am I wrong? Is this the norm for this motor, or is it lower because it is showing its age?

I don't really want to run thicker oil. Unless I should, please tell me if I should. Right now I have 10-30 valvoline high mileage in there. What is the oil PSI on your cars?

Everyone is running about the same. it'* the motors. .. they 'll run to 200+ miles that way.

Well thats good to know. i just worry, I have never had a car this old, I get paranoid that every time i turn around something else it breaking.........

Is it true that different filters and oil (not weight, but brand, blend, full syn, ext.) can raise pressure too correct? I plan on changing to synthetic when I change my oil pan gasket.

What is the pressure on your car? Or is that totally different because of the series and booster!
