Well I stuck my poker in there, she came right out after a few pokes. Then I was forced to pull out, she didn't need anymore poking. Its all good.

Well, yeah, 'cause "HVAC" is defined back up in Step 1. Anyhow, it'* "Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning," the usual abbreviation for anything related to that. The temperature sensor monitors the temperature inside the car. (There'* another one for the outside, mounted near the bottom center of the radiator support.)

In order to get a good reading for the sensor, they mount it in the middle of the dash behind a small grille, and put a small air tube (the aspirator tube) behind it which draws a low flow of air in over the sensor. Over the years, that sensor gets a good coating of dust, tobacco smoke and gawd-knows-what-else built up on it.
