One other question. If my O2 sensonr was not working properly why wouldn't it give me an error code?

02 sensors often times go rich without producing an error code because the parameters are so large built into the PCM so that you will not get a check engine light every other day you drive your car. For instance the car is allowed to run rich during the warm up cycle without producing a code.
Try removing the sensor and looking at the tip. Tell us what color it is.
