Default So much for my underbody "restoration"

Yesterday I left a steep parking lot onto a flat road and heard a popping noise. I knew exactly what it was. Driving down the road I heard creaking and cracking. Not a very pleasing sound. I got home in a couple minutes, immediately jacked it up and found what I knew I would find. :(

Has anyone ever had this kind of thing fixed?

Bill stopped over to take a look. He'* going to see if Dan is willing to fix it. If not I'll be hoping to find a place that will do it for a reasonably low price. =/

Time to put the Sebring back on the road.

Unfortunately it'* the unibody around that area that gave out. The subframe itself is fine. It doesn't strike me as something that is not repairable.

I REFUSE to give up on a car over something like this, especially one that runs as well as this car does. So much of this car is in excellent shape. If this ends up costing me a lot I don't know what I'm going to do though.

Is that where the control arm joins the body?

There must be a way to weld in a plate there or something...

That'* not the control arm, it'* the subframe, where it joins the unibody behind the passenger side front wheel. Sorry, the pics aren't the best.

I would think that you could *possibly* have a skilled welder remove all of the bad rusted metal, and weld in some new metal.. If I was going to do something like this, I would spend the money and have a very very good welder do it for me... that is the engine cradle/subframe, and if that decides to come out while driving down the road, it would likely cause a major accident.

I really hope you can find someone willing to take on the job... but I fear that a shop MIGHT not take it on due to liability reasons. ( I could be wrong there )

And even MINE is still attached. Jees!

I gotta watch this thread carefully, please post any and all solutions to this, i am very curious to how hard it would be to fix.

Mine may not be attached but it clearly looks like you have a much bigger problem. I'm not missing huge areas of metal like that. Mine is just rusted right around the bushing area.

This car is my baby so I want the best for it. I'd want it fixed properly by someone who knows what they are doing, and will support the engine properly while removing the subframe. Of course this type of shop would not be cheap, which will probably end up being devastating to me, since I don't want to lose the car or a lot of money I don't have.

I just insured my Sebring so it'* ready to put on the road....my premium more than DOUBLED...almost $3200/year with both cars insured. :( I need this fixed ASAP so I can take the Sebring off!

I tried to leave only comprehensive and take off liability since I'm not driving it, which would include removing bodily injury. The agent said I couldn't take off liability, which is BS IMO. I don't know why I have to have full coverage on a car when it'* off the road. But that'* a whole different thread topic.
