When I first purchased my stock 92 SSE only the lumbar adjustments worked for both passenger and driver. Not even the click of a relay when pressing any other seat adjustments.

I removed the passenger seat to better inspect the electrical connections for corrosion and see if there was any measurable voltage. Connections were clean and measured about 6 to 7 volts.

I tested each of the motors using an external 12VDC power supply and they all worked swimmingly. Oh, and I tested the little compressor under the passenger side as well.

Next, I remove the driver’* seat to do the same thing - and to look at the relays as well. I found corrosion in a couple of the electrical connectors; which I cleaned up best I could.

Again testing each motor, ~ they all worked.

I cleaned up and re-greased the horizontal actuators too.

After putting both seats, back in the passenger side has lost all functionality and the driver side lost the lumbar adjustments. In addition, horizontal movement works in only one direction - backwards - the relay doesn't even click when you push the forward direction. The relays do click for all lumbar adjustments on both sides.

I know the power windows are wired in series; is this true for the power seats as well?

As far as troubleshooting the lumbar adjustments, one of the first things I need to do is measure voltage at the compressor under the passenger seat. I'm sure there will be less than 12VDC at the plug - so do try to find out which relay is for the compressor and measure voltage there? That’* gonna suck.

If the driver’* side horizontal adjustment will not go forward; and no corresponding audible relay click is heard when pressing the button to move forward; does that indicate the directional switch is suspect?

I'm guessing the seats are wired in series and I must not have been able to sufficiently clean all the corrosion from the drivers side causing power loss resulting in less than 12VDC getting to the passenger side.

Not 100% on the 6 ways. On the 9 way both seats are wired to a control box under the driverside. Maybe a connector missing or something in the control box, if the 6'* have one.

where are your seat controls, in the center of the console or on the seat....

Sounds to me like he'* going to be shopping for a little black box. Possibly more.

They have to be the 9-ways. No question.

Yep, on the center console there are 3 rows of 3 buttons and that equals 9 all day long. It appears I need some remedial math.

Aight - signature done; but let me ask. when you say ‘trim level’ is that another way to express modifications? Cuz looking @ other signatures it seems pretty universal to have year, class (e.g. SE, SSE, or SSEi), and a list of any mods.

The relays in the control box are surface-mount. Not really an option for repairs, and not really likely to be cleaned effectively. My suspicion is that black box is most of your trouble. But do take the time to check for power at the compressor first (when selecting a lumbar/side bolster function).

I don't have my schem'* handy to check for power coming out of the box for lumbar. I also suspect the relay in the box to select the non-working seat functions is out.

OK, so let me ask you this: in general, what does the click of a relay indicate? Doesn't that indicate the switch just opened or closed? Doesn't it take 12VDC to operate the switch in a properly working relay?[/list]
