Programming a remote entry key fob for 1992 SSE
I got a used key fob on Ebay and want to program it for my 1992 SSE. The buttons on mine are all worn out and do not deprees and release properly. I looked in my owners manual but did not see instructions on how to do this. Does a dealer have to do this?

As for your old one, you might want to open that up anyway, and see if a little cleaning will help. (With rubbing alcohol, clean the carbon button contacts, and the circuit board interlaced-finger patterns that they press on.) The button mashing probably had more to do with the batteries getting tired than anything else, at which point you'd start pushing the buttons harder in case there was some mistake, etc., and if you clean the old one and drop another couple of batteries in it (I think it takes two CR2016 batteries either stacked or side-by-side, doesn't it?), you might get lucky.
If you're _really_ stingy, just buy the new batteries you'll need for the eBay remote anyway, but first use them to try resuscitate your existing remote as a backup.

OK..I followed the directions. I shorted the 2 pins together and heard the locks lock/unlock as described. I then pressed one button on the new remote expecting to hear the locks respond and nothing happened. I even put new batteries in it, repeated the procedure and still nothing. I got it on Ebay so maybe it'* defective? Cosmetically it is almost perfect and the inside was very clean. Is there anything I'm not doing right?

tonyg, when you search for the matching replacement on eBay (if that'* the route you go), use the actual FCC ID in the search field... search titles and descriptions. That way you know you'll find only matching remotes, and you won't have to weed through all the various results from searching for "Pontiac keyless remote" or something similar.
You might also want to check with the original seller... see if they have a matching remote that they will exchange if you pay shipping both ways.
