Default 92 SE - is the steering wheel covered in real lether?

I was wondering about this, 'cause it'* beginning to smell bad my hands stink after every drive.

I guess I'll have to put some kind of cover on it. I hate those covers though...

Btw, the car is running perfectly now after I swapped the engine

I used to wipe down the leather steering wheel with Armor All leather wipes, the stuff that came off of there was nasty

I thought about using leather wrap but evantually splurged and picked up a $10 dollar knobby style wheel cover..feels good on the palms and digits

I believe it is real leather. It shouldn't smell though. Try cleaning it good with a mild soapy water solution. Be careful what you put on it, some of those leather "conditioners" and such make the wheel very slippery. I know because I tried it once.

You too, I figured what the heck I'm cleaning the seats with it I can clean the steering wheel with it. The next day was a real treat

I'd say the smell is just oils from hands and maybe food but every time I cleaned mine the rag was black and very nasty. Most likely it'll take a few cleanings to get rid of unwanted smells.

Thanks guys

I couldn't find the Armor All Leather Wipes here. all I could find was their general use "Cleaning Wipes", so I gave them a try. Some nasty black stuff came off the steering wheel, and possibly it did the trick - I can' tell for sure yet.

My blue dashboard wasn't that lucky. It wasn't in a good shape anyway, but those wipes seem to have made things worse - it'* more gray than blue now. I'll probably need to have it repainted somehow, though I'm not sure if that'* even possible.

Maybe it needs to soak in etc. Some of those vinyl/plastic solutions look much better after a day or two, and have spread out a little more.

I never use anything special on plastic. Soapy water is the only thing that doesn't mess it up.

Mine does not smells bad, but the color is fading... I think is because the sun! We get very high temps here ( over 100 )

Do you know if the Wheel can be re-painted ? Is there any especial paint for lether?

Thanks.
