Default service engine soon....

I have a light that comes on every now and then that says service engine soon so I took it to autozone and their machines would not check it. Does it have the OBD1 or OBD2? It is not always on some times it comes and if I turn my car off it most of the time goes off. Any ideas? the other night I gunned it from about a 20mph roll and the light came on and kinda spuddered and cut out. help!!! Also can anyway help me with my avatar? I want the superman symbol but don't know how to do it.....

I've got the same problem, actually have had itfor about a year and a half. I've just been too lazy to fix it. Anyways it sounds like the EGR Valve. If your car feels a little rough while idling I'm almost 100% posititve that'* what it is. I have a 94 ssei. It'* supposedly common.

You should have the OBD I...strange AZ said they couldn't read the codes...I would try to have it scanned before you start replacing sensors and such....

Althought the cars has the OBD II 16 pin connector, and utillizes the OBD II codes, it is not an OBD II system... GM started the newer style as early as 94 but its still not the same as the 96-current GM cars and trucks.. The system is more of a hybrid system... You have to have a scan tool that will read the 94-95 bonneville.. My cheap scantool will read 84-95 GM cars and trucks... But on the 94-95 bonnie it uses OBD II codes... For the 94 model year there are both 12 pin connectors and 16 pin connectors.. I'm assuming that you do have the 16 pin... If you hook up an OBD II scantool to the 94-95 bonnevilles you will get a link error... the 94-95 bonnies will not talk to the OBD II scan tool... Shame on Autozone, I would think they would know this by now..

BTW, the 94 and 95 models, eventhough they use the OBD II codes they are OBD I...
MAN...What was GM smoking in "94??

I had the same prob w Autozone. They advertise free diagnostic hook up. They are prob thinking if they read the code for you then they'll make the sale on the part. Good theory. But they use the orange cheap handheld Actron that gave me a link error also on a few occasions.

I have had this exact same problem with autozone and advanced auto..they have the orange actron and at each place I got link error several times

i have a 94 se..I think it would be in my best interest to buy the scanner that jr has from autozone and that would probably save money adn time?

let me know if you find out anything else..also here is the link to my problem where Jr's3800 gives the part number to the scanner that will read our cars.
