Security Light
Hi All,
I apologize if this has been posted before. I did a search but didn't find any other problems like mine.
The security light it my Bonneville stays on sometimes after I start the car...and even when I'm driving. Sometimes it'* just on, and other times it flashes. I haven't been able to determine what causes it to come on.
I don't really care if the light is on, but the problem I'm having is that sometimes after I park the car, a few minutes later the alarm starts to go off for no apparent reason. I can go out and unlock the doors with the key and the alarm shuts off. What I've been doing is just locking the doors manually, to prevent the alarm from activating. I have keyless entry, but I still need to program the fob thingy. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Does the security system need to be reset or something???
Thanks for any help!

There'* a few things to check here, and you may have more than one problem.
1. Clean the resistor pellet in your key with a pencil eraser.
2. Clean the contacts in the ignition switch for the pellet with a Qtip and alcohol (not beer).
3. Possibly try another key to see if symptoms change.
4. Have you noticed any doors that show they're open when they're not? If not, open the trunk and remove the carpet on the underside of the lid. Between the layers of the trunk lid, you'll see a mechanical cable between the lock tumbler and a small electrical connector. Disconnect the connector, and drive like that for a couple days. Did anything change?

I have a brand new key and that didn't seem to make any difference. I'll try cleaning the contacts inside the ignition and disconnecting the wire in the trunk. Thanks.
