Default Up in smoke

Well, on Friday the wife called me at work to tell me that she barely made it home form WalMart. She couldn't get the car over 35 mph and it was stuttering badly. I got a ride home (thanks Mom) and checked it out when I got home. The coolant was gone. I filled it back up and drove it up and down my blcok for about 5 minutes. It was fine at first, but then it started sputtering something fierce. When I parked it there was a nice sized puddle of coolant under the front end. And, oh yeah, the white smoke coming out of the exhaust was horrible. It looked like a smoke screen.
Anyway, I checked the oil and it seemed fine. So, I am guessing it is the dreaded UIM failure.
Now, the wife is fed up and wants to get rid of it, I ofcourse want to fix it and keep it going. I am trying to talk her into fixing it and buying a new car.
So, IF I can find someone to help, how much are we talking to get this fixed?
And, how do I determine for certain if this is indeed the problem?
By the way, the car won't even start now.
Now the big debate is is it even worth fixing?
See this thread for all I have alrady done

The problem at the time ended up being that elbow joint thing.
Now, I also need a new front ball joint and two new tail lights, I have some rust reapir to do and a few interior pieces are broken.

if the coolant tank is dry....CHANGE THE OIL NOW, and also flush about 1-2 quarts thru the motor and let them drain out.....

you want to get the coolant out of the bottom of the motor, before long term damage has been done
the cost may be some Beer, and UNDER $200 for the entire repair

You asked if it was worth fixing. Well, if the car looks good and pleasing when it'* fully clean (meaning waxed and vaccumed), I say fix it but if it still looks like a polished turd, get rid of it.
