Check/change/test your intake air temp sensor, MAF, O2 sensor. These all effect your AFR. If you have a strong gas spell at the tail pipe your cat may be shot.

So you said you cleaned the MAF sensor and it'* still smoking and smelling of gas? I would change the upper O2 sensor next. Go with a DENSO and stay away from the BOSCH. After you change the sensor, then let'* see what happens from that point forward.
